The following words are engraved on his tombstone: Thousands of people visit his Ashram in Pune every year, and tens of thousands visit worldwide centers, run by his Sannyasins. Many years have passed, but Osho's dream and vision still prevail. Many of his Sannyasins believe to this day, that his death was the result of a poisoning he was subjected to during his incarceration in the United States. Osho left his body in January 19th, 1990. In 1989 Rajneesh changed his name, as he has done to hundreds of thousands of people in his lifetime, and has been known as Osho ever since.

After a long period of wondering through Europe, South America and Asia, being deported over and over again, Osho went back to Pune in 1986 to establish what his followers referred to as 'Pune 2'. This American venture, called 'Rajneeshpuram', ended with Rajneesh's 18 day long arrest, possession of all his cars and deportation from the US.ДЇollowing the deportation from the United States, 21 other countries would not allow him to land in their territories, not even to refuel his plane. The Americans were less than thrilled by the guru who came to them with 96 Rolls Royce cars and thousands of followers, and essentially took over a town named Antelope in Oregon. In 1981 he decided to realize his vision and found a commune in the United States. As part of the provocations he liked so much, Osho boasted expensive watches, Rolls Royce cars, diamond studded hats and beautiful women.

Osho founded his first center in Pune, which attracted people from all over India as well as westerners from all over the world. He named his followers 'Swamis', a title reserved only for men of religious esteem in India he changed the names of his followers to ancient Hindi names, even if those followers were teenaged American girls, and continued to disparage every existing religion, institute, government and society. Throughout his transformation from a Philosophy lecturer to a spiritual teacher, Rajneesh never stopped provoking. Within a few months, thousands of people were rushing to his workshops, and that's when the first westerners started to arrive. Those who were interested were invited to workshops in the mountains, where he developed his unique meditation methods. Jabalpur University decided to let the problematic professor go, both for his revolutionary opinions and for the pressure his many listeners put on the cafeterias after class.ДЄfter Rajneesh left the university he started travelling through India by train, lecturing people as he went. No wonder then, that his lectures quickly started drawing in large crowds, and people were hanging from the rafters to hear him speak. But his lectures would always slide quite quickly from mere Philosophy studies to expressing his opinions about anything and everything in the world, criticizing Hindu religion, the government, Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa. After graduating from Jabalpur University, he joined the academic staff and started teaching Philosophy.
